Please specify how long the key should be valid. 0 = key does not expire = key expires in n days w = key expires in n weeks m = key expires in n months y = key expires in n years Key is valid for? (0) 0 Key does not expire at all Is this correct? (y/N) y Really create? (y/N) y gpg: error reading fingerprint DO gpg: key generation failed: general error gpg: Key generation failed: general error so i tried several times changing the type of subkey to move on the card but the message always is the same.. please help me if you can!!! best regards, mariu

Try disabling the pscd daemon before generating the key. The card howto should help you do this. Let us know if the problem persists. bye stef

From lsusb, my reader is: 072f:0001 Advanced Card Systems, Ltd AC1030-based SmartCard Reader

I don't know what you mean by disabling pcsd before generating the key -- if I stop pcscd then I can't access the card any more...

Can anyone help?
