French local government gives away free software cd-roms

All libraries, high schools and universities from Brest, a French city, are full with the free software CD-ROM 'Bureau Libre Free-EOS'. This CD-ROM contains free software applications for Windows as well as Mac OS X and also some GNU/Linux distributions.

The local government of Brest has already passed over more than 200.000 copies of its CD-ROM and now wants to continue the awareness of free software by giving them away in 77 public buildings.
The 'free office'-disc contains an office suite and programs made for audio and video-editing. Public representatives have also pulled up a network which should help new computer users to get affiliated with their computer and the programs on the free CD-ROM. The CD-ROM is particularly for Windows-users but there are also copies for Mac OS X as well as installation CD-ROMS of GNU/Linux distributions.
The CD-ROM is freely available from the website of Libre free-EOS (for the people who understand some French of course).

Assistent of the mayor of Brest, Michel Briand, is calling for his colleagues in France to follow the example of Brest: "Why doesn’t the French State, instead of buying expensive licenses from Microsoft, not use that money to equip themselves, at no cost the French people, with computer programs, and in that way to help those that develop, improve and distribute free software!?"

The free software revolution already began some time ago in France and continues to grow. Recently there were riding some vans with GNU/Linux-laptops at the French national parlement, the Assemblée.
The public representatives now continue to do their work on a special equipped Ubuntu-system that has been put on a thousand HP-laptops by some GNU/Linux-specialised company.

This is great news although we are still waiting for the day those people choose to equip their hardware with an entirely free GNU/Linux distribution like gNewSense and it would also be a good idea if they distributed CD-ROMS with gNewSense on.
Unfortunately this seems to be unattainable at the moment but we keep on hoping...
