On September 30th, there will be an awareness campaign outside the Apple Store on Regent Street in London from 2pm until 5pm. Hopefully we'll get a good turnout. Let me know if you're interested in coming along. There'll be a limited supply of HazMat suits to go around...

I just read an interview with RMS where he talks about peer-to-peer networks, digital restrictions management and the CC licences (including why he now refuses to endorse them). Interesting reading...

Freedom to Share

I received some junk mail today. Normally, it goes straight in the bin, but this one was different. Emblazoned on the front were the words "Freedom to Share", with a Symantec logo there on the top.

"What's this?" I thought, "Have Symantec seen the light? Have they resolved to become a Free Software Company in 2006?".

Opening the pamphlet, in a huge font across the top, it says "Freedom to explore... new software, new tools, new opportunities" and then there's a smaller pamphlet, titled "Share with Confidence". Inside that, there's a section titled "Welcome to a feeling of freedom".

"Wow", I thought, "Symantec seem to be going all-out for Free Software"...

Then there's a CD. "For Promotional use only. Not for resale/retail."

... maybe they've not "got" Free Software just yet...
